Beacons are items that can be used to mark Portals in the Scanner. They are sold in the Ingress Store and given out during special Niantic events such as Anomalies. Certain Beacons may also be given out for free for special events or occasions.
Beacons last above the Portal for 4 hours and can be seen by members of both factions. Beacons are not Portal Mods, they do not occupy a mod slot and can be applied to a fully modded Portal.
Types[]
Two different Beacons are sold in the Store:
- Beacon - Meetup
- Beacon - Target
There is also a 16-pack of Beacons, despite the description in the Store still saying it's a 14-pack, that includes the two above, plus:

- Beacon - RES
- Beacon - Niantic
- Beacon - Obsidian
- Beacon - Aegis Nova
- Beacon - Via Lux
- Beacon - Via Noir
- Beacon - Reawakens

In addition to those above, there is also the Beacon - BLM 
, which was released during the height of the Black Lives Matter movement in July 2020. This Beacon is free, and five packs of x3 Beacon - BLM (to a total of 15) can be acquired in the Store. At the time, once all five packs have been acquired, it is not possible to get more.
Fireworks[]
- Main article: Firework
On 02. July 2020, Fireworks were added. They are a type of Beacon, but with animation and sound. There are two Fireworks, one with the colour for Resistance 
, and one with the colour for Enlightened 
. A three-pack is purchasable from the Store for 
1 000 CMU.
Battle Beacons[]
- Main article: Battle Beacon
Battle Beacons are a special type of Beacon that initiate competitive, Faction-based challenges for Portal control ("Battle Beacon Challenge"). Over a series of checkpoints, both Factions compete in controlling the Portal during a checkpoint to gain points. The Faction that gains the most points during the checkpoints wins the Battle Beacon Challenge. Battle Beacons currently exist in two rarities, Rare (introduced on 16. December 2021) and Very Rare (introduced on 29. September 2020).

- The Beacon - Toast! is the only premium item currently available that can be acquired but redeeming a Passcode. When buying a Toast plushie in the Niantic Store, it will ship with a Passcode for 10x Beacon - Toast! .
